The Assyrian Professor Nashat Gabrail from USA was interviewed by ORHAY.

The word is to Dr. Nashat:

I was borne in Nineveh  March 21st 1952. After the turmoil’s in 1959-1961 we moved to Alqush...our mother town. Graduated from Alqush high school in 1970. Graduated from Mosul Medical school in 1976. received my special degree in Internal Medicine MRCP (UK) form the university of Edinburgh, Scotland in 1982. Received my specialty degree in Haematology (blood diseases)  MRCPath (UK) from the university of Glasgow, Scotland. Moved to the US in 1984. received my Boards specialty in Internal Medicine in 1987, through the Michigan State University USA.  Trained in Medical Oncology(cancer specialty) and received my board certification In oncology from the University of Missouri in 1989.Became Professor on Medicine and Oncology at Saint Louis University from 1989 till 1990. In 1990 I moved to private practice as oncologist in canton Ohio. And I have been here since then. Currently I own and operate Gabrail Cancer Center http://www.gabrailcancercenter.com   We do a lot of clinical research and was named recently as one of the top 500 cancer researchers world wide. I have published over 25 articles relevant to clinical research in pear reviewed journals.

My only hobby is Golf, I live on a golf course and enjoy the game ...almost an addict to it.

  I am single but have a lovely fiancé of 7 years. Have 3 children. Caroline 23 years old  a chemist currently a researcher in our cancer center. paul is 22 years old a business graduate and working on getting Masters degree in accounting. My baby son is Michael  15 years old and a great golfer.

Do I remember Alqush?  every second of meditation when I have time to do so.

Although I am Iraqi Assyrian I am also proud to be part of the American experience. It is the greatest country in the world.

In my opinion having children is reincarnation....reborn again. cherish my kids and enjoy their company. In fact I am proud to say that Caroline works with me, Paul is my financial consultant and runs my investments since he was 16 years old, and Michael is my golf buddy. I feel blessed with what I have, kids, great fiancé and as some profession, Prosperity is a plus. Life is to be cherished with its good and the occasional bad, it is fun and is to be enjoyed otherwise don’t call it life. the same is true about wife......if you don’t enjoy it let go.

What causes cancer? will try to be brief and to the point:

1. Lung cancer...Smoking, little genetics
2. Colon cancer...low fiber , high fat diet and some genetics.
3.Breast Cancer...no pregnancy or pregnancy after the age of 30, high fat diet. may be wine drinking, and a lot of genetics.

How to prevent cancer? you can’t change your genes...at least not these days. Middle east diet with a lot of (gargor) and vegetables is the key. Of course no smoking to prevent lung cancer. Girls are to encouraged to get pregnant before the age of 30 is the key especially if they have family history. I think one aspirin a day can prevent colon cancer, breast cancer(this was the subject of an interview recently I had with the local radio station). In fact aspirin can prevent prostate cancer too.
